NZ Wheelchair Rugby, is hosting the NZ Wheelchair Rugby National Championship at Allen Brewster Leisure Centre in Papatoetoe on Saturday 1st and 2nd September. A full two days of competition commence at 9am on Saturday with the best regional players making up strong teams to battle for the trophy on Sunday at Midday.
This year five teams will battle it out for the Champions title with Athletes, Volunteer Officials and supporters coming together from across New Zealand. We know that players, officials, supporters and spectators will enjoy fast paced, highly skilled wheelchair rugby over the weekend.
Waikato are defending their title and have a very strong team. We are fortunate to have Bay of Plenty enter a team into the Nationals for the first time ever. The Auckland team, Canterbury team and Waikato team all have current Wheel Blacks players in their teams and the Nationals has tempted the 2004 Paralympian gold medallists out of retirement to form a team and compete as the Has-Beens.
NZ Wheelchair Rugby wishes to thank the Trusts Community Foundation for supporting our volunteer Officials to attend and run the Nationals Championship. Thank you also to NZ Wheelchair Rugby’s sponsor, Travel Prefab, our preferred travel provider and Melrose Chairs, Sanitarium and Coca-Cola Amatil for your support to NZ Wheelchair Rugby and the Nationals Championship. The role of sponsors in our sport is critical. We wish to thank each and every one for your generous contributions. Without your help wheelchair rugby events would not be possible.
