Congratulations go to Auckland White, the 2016 NZ Wheelchair Rugby National Champions. An exciting final between the two Auckland teams had spectators on the edge of our seats. Auckland White winning with a score of 50 over Auckland Blue scoring 47.
The battle for bronze was another nail-biter with Canterbury putting constant pressure on Waikato who held the lead for the silver medal, a final score of 57 for Waikato and 54 for Canterbury.
It was great to have the Australian ref and players joining our tournament, we hope you enjoyed the tournament and got time to appreciate our sunny, winter days.
NZ Wheelchair Rugby thank Auckland Wheelchair Rugby for this smooth running, well presented tournament. We give a huge shout out to all organisers and the volunteers who make these tournaments a success, the referees, the bench officials, transport organisers, the tournament coordinator and vitally the food to sustain all officials and players. Not to forget the preparation work in months building up to the event and ‘on the spot’ roles that get filled by shoulder tapping volunteers.
Tony Howe, thank you for your long service and work for wheelchair rugby. You will be missed and we all wish you well.
